Sustainability and our pledge

Even though our boat dates to 1978 (a true classic), we are fully aware that the use of fossil fuels used during these excursions has an impact on the environment. To compensate for this, we channel 30% of the financial surplus from our boat tours to organizations working with nature preservation and carbon offset. The three organizations we have chosen are the following:

Swedish recreational boats emit 177,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide /year (Point, 2021) which represents 3.5% of Sweden’s total emissions (Naturvårdsverket, 2019).  PicBoats’ vessels require an average of 1.2 litres of fuel per nautical mile (1,852 metres/1.5 statute miles). To compensate for the emissions generated from our trips we cooperate with Svensk Kolinlagring (Swedish carbon sequestration) who aim to sequester double the amount of carbon emitted during the boating season.

WWF- Save the Baltic Sea

PicBoats donates to the WWF. Our donations are earmarked to saving the Baltic Sea – the Baltic Stewardship Initiative – and preserving biodiversity and stopping eutrophication.

Biodiversity in Swedish forests

Nature, the archipelago and forests are close at heart to us at PicBoats. And by supporting the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation (SSNC) we help contribute to increased participation and impact regarding issues related to sustainable development in local and global development processes. Climate, forests, agriculture, environmental pollutants, water, oceans and sustainable consumption are important focus areas.

Leave only Footprints: Environmental health and Carbon emissions

Chemical Hygiene and Carbon emissions

At PicBoats we want to make sure we leave nothing in our wake except waves. We do this by making sure the boat leaves no chemical trace through the leaching of chemicals from the hull. And by compensating carbon emissions through supporting carbon sequestration.

Our pledge: Leave Only Footprints.
